Believe. . . The Lies & The Truth

A raw perspective...

Webster’s dictionary defines the word Believe :as...

To regard as true; to trust; to have faith; to think; to suppose; full acceptance of a thing as true.

Sounds simple enough doesn’t it.

Then why is it that for some reason, believe is one of the hardest words to grasp in just about every language in the world? Let’s take a closer look shall we?

From the moment we enter this world, the word believe plays a part. We “believe” (Or - to trust) that we will find safe passage from the womb parents that will nurture, care and guide us through our lives.

During our childhoods, we are taught to “believe” (Or – to regard as true) in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, God Almighty, fairy tales, love and the spoken word.

As we enter adulthood, we have come to “believe” (Or – to suppose) we will finish school, fall in love, get married and ultimately have a nice home, family and career.

At mid-life, we “believe” (Or - to think) that love is certainly hard work and all life will one day come to an end.

Into our senior years, we undeniably “believe” (Or – to have full acceptance of a thing as true) in what’s done is done, there’s no going back; and eventually with enough faith, all souls will go to heaven.

A full journey in and of itself.

However..Now let’s take a look at what is hiding inside that word.

If “believe” is such a wonderfully awesome collection of letters, then why is the word LIE so prominently set right smack in the middle?

Webster also defines the word Lie as. . .

To utter untruth; to misrepresent; to deceive; or to make false statement

The irony here is that the word lie actually contains more truth than not. For instance:

We do not in fact always find safe passage from the womb to “loving and nurturing parents to guide us through our lives do we. (Misrepresented?)

Nor are fairy tales, the Easter Bunny, Santa, the Tooth Fairy, love and the spoken word all that accurate now are they. Yes, even God Almighty has been known to raise a few brows. (False statements?)

As for adulthood and the “ideal life”, well take your pick here. I am sure that deceive, misrepresented, utter untruth, false statements – any of these can be worked in here many times throughout one’s life.

Aah, good ole mid-life. Didn’t you know love wasn’t all wine and roses? You mean this isn’t what you signed up for? (Deceived?)

Ok seniors, with age comes wisdom right? What’s done is done? There’s no going back? Faith? Heaven? This all sounds pretty final to me. Hmmm, untruth perhaps?

It turns out that BELIEVING and LIE work pretty much hand in hand don’t they. Two words with completely opposite meanings are intertwined into one seemingly harmless word.

Isn’t this some sort of oxymoron?

Now before you go getting all defensive, don’t get me wrong. For some, believe is a wonderfully awesome collection of letters and life does work out just the way they “believed” it would. But for others, well, let’s just say things don’t turn out quite the same way.

Whether it be perspective, circumstance or fate, those two words have been woven in and out of life like a dull needle and course thread to a piece of fine silk cloth making one hardly able to differentiate where one word ends and the other begins.

That is until a simple rearrangement of the letters in the word “believe” changes your life forever in ways you never “believed” were even possible.

Just one thought….And it all begins.

So you see...we all believe the lies AND the truth however it is ...in which YOUR belief will shape and outline your current life and the life yet to be lived.

One will propel you forward-one will send you hurdling backwards. Choose wisely for not all is as it appears to be. Believe justly and wholeheartedly but always know the "lie" is in there somewhere waiting for you to fail, fall and disbelieve in yourself ...Or your creator.

One cannot have believe without trust and trust cannot come from a tainted heart.

What will YOU choose to believe? You can believe the truth OR believe the lie...it's all in YOUR belief and where you place YOUR trust ...AND heart.
